Hong Kong 2012 - Day 3 - Disneyland and Mong Kok

Date: 6 December 2012 (Thursday)
Subject: Hong Kong Day 3 - Disneyland Day 2 and Mong Kok
Temperature: 18 degrees
Tricia is 1 year 6 months, 2 weeks old and 1 day old
Racia is 5 years 9 months and 2 days old

We only managed to wake up at 8:30am this morning (It was considered late). All of us were too tired from after our trip to Disneyland park yesterday.
I was glad that we changed our breakfast session to the second slot from 9am to 11am instead of the first slot that starts at 7am! I can't image us waking up at 6am just to make it for breakfast at 7am!

The girls woke up well rest and super cheery! I guess this is the effect of Disneyland on children!

Hb was busy packing while I got the girls ready. Today, we will be checking out from Disneyland Hotel and moving over to Kowloon (And this where my real shopping will start..heheh!)! In the morning, we will continue with part two of our Disneyland park visit (We have a 2 day pass and today I wanted to cover the ares we didn't managed to cover yesterday).

As usual, the girls were super excited at breakfast because they get to meet their favourite characters! They could not sit still (especially BB1) who kept looking around for the characters and was so distracted that she barely touched her breakfast! This is definitely a trip OD with Disney characters 1 dinner and 2 breakfast!)!

After breakfast, we took our luggage and proceeded to check out of the hotel. We left our luggage with the concierge and hopped on the shuttle and headed over to the park.

We entered the park close to 12:00 noon and was just in time for a parade on main street - the Santa Mickey Toy-riffic Street Party starting at 12:30pm! It was a great parade and mid way through, they invited children to join in. Racia went up and one of the dancers even asked Tricia to join. But after walking two steps, she burst out crying! She ended up watching Jie Jie dance while seated on my lap. Must be stranger anxiety!

After the street party parade, we headed straight to the take the "Small Small World" boat ride (as requested by Racia). Both the girls love this boat ride. Similar  to yesterday, there was hardly any crowd and we managed to get seated on the first row with the entire boat to ourselves!

After this, we headed off to Disneyland Hong Kong's newest section of the park - Toy Story Land!
I love this new addition to the park. Toy Story Land is so colour and fun. You are surrounded with Toys that are much bigger than you and it makes you feel like you have wondered into this special land of toys. The first ride we tried was the "Slinky Dog" ride. Hb and BB1 sat on one seat while I took BB2 with me on another seat. This ride was fun, fast and I think it was little scary for BB2. Infant in arm were not allowed on it and they required that all children are to be seated on their own during the ride. As Tricia was still quite small in size, I was so worried that she may get thrown out as the dog spin round and round. I reckon that this ride will be more suitable once she grows a little bit taller and bigger!

Hb took BB1 to try the Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop while BB2 and me waited at the food kiosk nearby. It was close to lunch time and I wanted to feed Tricia some food. They took quite a while to come back as there was a long queue. When Hb came back, he suggested that I give a try too. Apparently, the single rider queue is always almost empty and it will not take me long to queue for a turn. It turned our to be true as I was the 2nd one in line and I got on almost immediately (less than 5 mins of queueing).  This ride is super fun and it has became my favourite ride in Disneyland! the feeling was awesome during the drop (quite minor through as compared to the more exciting roller coaster or even the RC racer ride). I will definitely try it again the next time we are there.

Next, we headed back to FantasyLand for lunch. After a quick lunch, we moved out to the castle square to get a good seat for the main street parade. We were 40 minutes early. I had sat down on a beach to wait (as BB2 has fallen asleep in the pouch) and this was when I realised that I was being stared at! Apparently, I had taken a seat reserved by this lady for her friend. And when she came back, she was angry that her seat was taken and decided to stared hard at me! She kept asking her friend why I was sitting at her seat (even after her friend explained that I had a baby with me). They spoke in Cantonese and i pretended not to understand. What an absolute rude and inconsiderate person!

Anyway, I moved on down to the pavement soon after to wait for the parade as she was starting to irritate me with her whinning about how I have taken her seat! The crowd started to gather as we got closer to 3pm (start of the parade) and soon, both sides of the pavement were filled with people. This was the "Flight of Fantasy" parade which we watched from a distant yesterday. With our fantastic front row seat, we had a really clear and close views of the the parade this time. We saw the beautiful floats, dancers and all the Disney characters. Minnie was wearing this gorgeous dress and half way through the parade, the dancers invited children up to join in. They handed the children ribbons for twirling. Racia went up and had a great time twirling the colourful ribbons and learning some dance steps with the dancers!.

We moved on to the train station for our train ride to main town USA station. Apparently, you could carry your stroller with you. We only realised it after getting into queue and Hb had to get out to pick up our stroller.
We alighted at Main Street and headed straight for the Guzzly Gulch (after new section of the park). This is western town with cowboy Mickey and Minnie and this is also where you can try the
Big Grizzly Mountain Runaway Mine Cars (a special roller coaster ride designed specially for Disneyland HK only). We toured the place but did not try the ride. Perhaps the next time we will go for it.

It was close to 4pm when we exited the park. We headed back to Disneyland hotel, picked up our luggage, got the concierge to arrange a taxi to take us down to Kowloon! By the time we got on the taxi, it was close to 5:30pm!

It was a short taxi ride and the total fare (Meter and baggage surcharges) came up to HK$185. Hb paid a total of HK$210 inclusive of tips. Our hotel at Kowloon was the Shamrock Hotel (We have been staying here since Racia's second trip to Hong Kong in 2009. We pleasantly surprised that they had renovated the lobby since our last trip in 2010. The lobby and reception looked really modern and sleek now. I so hope that they have plans to re-furbish the rest of the hotel (including the rooms) soon! I booked us a double deluxe room and was given a free upgrade to this mini suite. I did not like this room as we do not look out to Nathan Street. I had hope to get one of the room facing the front with a view of Nathan Street! Anyway, Hb consoled me saying that we will not be spending too much time in the room! The only good point about this room is that both the queen bed is leaning against a wall. This is much safer when the girls sleep on the bed.

After the delivery of our luggage and a quick freshening up, we headed out to hunt for dinner. We decided to go back to the Cha Chan Ting (located behind the hotel which we always frequent in our past trips) for dinner. Racia had her usual pork chop rice and I ordered a braised tofu rice for BB2. For Hb and I, we had the super yummy roast goose rice. Food just taste so much better in Hong Kong! Dinner cost us HK$159.
It was definitely not easy to eat with BB2 in a Cha Chan Ting as the seats were very narrow and the table small. She started swiping and throwing stuff from the table as soon as she was seated. The only thing that distracted her was the food. After dinner, we took a bus down to Harbour City and hit Toys R Us. We spent close to 2 hours in there and picked up tons of toys (S$170 worth). The main bulk of our purchase was BB1's Sylvanian Family set (I found them to be much cheaper in Hong Kong), and my Hello Kitty Vtech and other Hello Kitty stuff for BB2. I literally went crazy when I saw teh entire rack of Hello Kitty Vtech toys! I love shopping in HK.

This is what we bought:
1. Sylvanian Family Rainbow Nursery
2. Sylvanian Family - Bath time for baby
3. Sylvanian Family - Chocolate Rabbit Family Set
4. Vtech Hello Kitty music
5. Hello Kitty Toy ring for BB2
6. 1 packet of wet wipes
7. 2 boxes of mickey fever patches
8. 4x Christmas packs
9. One bag of Gerber biscuits

We shopped from 7:30pm to 9:30pm before heading back to the hotel. We took a bus (No. 2 or 7) from the TST Star Ferry Terminal and alighted at bowing street (right outside our hotel). It was a short bus ride (only about 3 stops in total)

After their routine night bath in the tub, the girls requested for a short play session with their new toys. Tricia was so hungry that night that she asked for a 2nd helping of milk after finishing her first bottle of 150ml milk. (Her total milk consumption for that feed, 150ml + 100ml, the highest amount to-date!)

I ran down to 7Eleven to pick up some supper and this when I saw their Sanrio + 7 Eleven redemption items. (7Eleven collaborates with Sanrio every year end to roll out a redemption programme of really cute Sanrio collectibles) This year, it was a Sanrio dessert range of toys! It was super cute. They even have this 2 tier Hello Kitty die cut dessert tray (which was OOS at that store). Perhaps i can start looking out for it at other 7Elevens store! I spent HK$97 on snacks and food and got 7 stamps!

I only managed to get to bed at $12.45am!

Tomorrow, we are heading to the Michelin 1 star dim sum restaurant - Hou Wan Tou at Sham Sui Po for breakfast. I am so looking forward to this meal and hope there is no crowd at all!
