Hong Kong 2009 - Day 1

Subject: Hong Kong - Day 1
Date: 28 December 2009 (Monday)
Racia is 2 years, 10 months, 3 weeks and 2 days old today

We are off to a 8 days holiday in Hong Kong!!

It was a mad few days of packing and festive parties prior to the trip. I had started packing Racia’s stuff almost a week before and was still packing right till the day before our trip! There was so much to bring along and as usual, hubby and my stuff only took up half of one luggage and Racia had one whole brand new luggage to herself. (We bought a new Samsonite at the Robinson's post Xmas sale two days ago!)

She was pretty excited and wanted to help me pack her stuff. She even chose the toys and books that she wanted to bring along. Of course, this also included her teddy bear as well as her bolster, pillow and blanket! Maybe this is the reason why we ended up lugging so much stuff there!

I managed to tuck Racia to bed at 10am. We needed to wake up at 4am as the taxi was due to arrive at 5:45am (our flight was at 9am)
It was a mad rush as usual in the morning and Racia was still sleeping when i carted her up from the bed and down to the waiting taxi. She only woke up when we reached the airport - T3.

She was still in her PJs when we checked in. Daddy managed to weigh her at the airport and she was 12.7Kg ! What a surprised as i thought she was still at 11kg!

After checking in, it was time for some breakfast, we headed to Burger King located at level 2. Racia did not eat much, she just wanted her milk. I changed her out of her PJs and soon, she was running round the terminal. We headed for the children playgroup and she had so much fun playing there as well as the Butterfly Garden (I waited outside while Nai Nai bring her in).

We boarded at 9am to a full flight. The interior of the A380 was much bigger than the other regular flights. It was a smooth flight to Hong Kong and Racia even managed to nap for 1 hour which allowed us to eat in peace. I had motion sickness on the plane and ended up throwing up just after we land! The plane landed on time at Hong Kong International Airport at around 1pm.
After clearing immigration and picking up our bags, we headed to top up our octopus card ( as well as buy a new card for Nai Nai) and picked up tickets for Disneyland at the counter.

We took the A21 City Flyer from the airport to our hotel - Shamrock at Jordan MTR/Nathan Road. I threw up again after our bus ride and i blamed it all on Racia who kept asking me to turn here and there as well as look left and right during our 45 minutes bus journey!

We reach the hotel at 2pm plus and waited a while they checked us in. We were given a free upgrade to a deluxe double room and it was indeed very spacious. We had some problem with our credit card during checking in as apparently they have set a limit to the amount we can swipe per transaction. (I should have call and inform them of these transaction prior to the trip). Anyway, it was soon resolved by using 2 different cards.

After a short rest, we left the hotel at 4:30pm and headed up to the Peak for dinner. The no. 15 bus ride from central pier took almost an hour and by the time we got up there, the sky has turned dark and the temperature dropped. We headed to this Char Chan Ting at B1 for a quick dinner. In fact, we only left straight after dinner as it started to drizzle. Seeing that the bus queue was pretty long, we decided to try the mini bus down. Mini bus was only a few dollars more expensive than the bus and we down in record time (20 minutes!!). We decided that we will take the mini bus up the next time!

As we were all tired, we turned in early. For tomorrow, we will be heading to Disneyland !

Our luggage - half for us and 1.5 for Racia.
