Prelude to the Party

Subject: Pre Party Preparation
Date: 27 February 2009 (Friday)

Racia is 1 year 11 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days old today.

There is so much to plan and so much to do for a birthday party!

I have been really busy this past two weeks planning Racia's 2nd birthday party. Even though it is going to be a small party, the minimum number of guest still starts at 15! This only includes both side of our families. And if i were to include our very close friends, the number can easy go up to 20~!

I was racking my head on what theme to choose for this year's party. I have shortlisted some themes but I wanted to check with Racia before I decide. This is because the cake, decorations and loot bags are all dependent on my chosen theme (My Virgo trait because I am quite obsessed about having everything in the same theme for a party!).

Shortlisted themes include:

  • Mickey and Minnie Mouse (From her recent Disney trip)
  • Care bears - She loves her care bears
  • Pooh Bear - Such a classic theme and she loves her pooh bear too!
After deliberating for more than 1 week, Daddy and i finally decided on the Mickey Mouse theme as she seems to love Mickey the most as compared to the other two selections. From here, it began my journey to source for a Mickey theme cake, party decorations, loot bags as well as venue!!

First item on the list, our venue! We decided to go and book a function room at Kids Explorer to host the party as Des and I really dread all the cleaning up if we were to hold it at our house (And i think our house is really really too small to host 20 guest!). Kids Explorer has a guest limit of 20 adults and 20 children and this number is just perfect for us (even though i do not have 20 kids!).

Here's a snapshot of our party location :

Next,.. the cake! We decided to go back to Pine Garden (AMK) to order our cake.
See the decors that i found for the cake:
  • Mickey, Minnie, Pluto figurines from Mega Block (They were damn expensive - $50 bucks!)
  • A Mickey Mouse Candle from a local BP ($6.90)
  • A no.2 Candle which i got from Greeting Cards ($2.90)

I decided on a two-tier 2 kg cake. Top tier PG's signature Lychee Martina flavour and bottom tier, also their hot favourite - Triple Layer Chocolate flavour.

Party decorations were soured from all over, most of them were purchased from local BP held at the Singapore Motherhood forum sites. From this BP, I managed to buy the following:
  • 2 Mickey Mouse 9" Foil Balloons
  • 2 Mickey Mouse Streamers
  • Disney Mickey and Friends Party Backdrop
  • Disney Mickey and Friends Party Table Cover
  • Disney Mickey and Friends Party Hats
The week before the party, i created Racia's Party e-Invitation card!
Check out Racia's Mickey inspired e-invite below:

I also did a party signage for use on the door of the function room:

And finally the preparation of the loot bags! I spent weeks sourcing for suitable items for the loot bags and this is what i got:
  • Mickey Mouse and Friends - Colouring Book
  • Mickey Mouse and Friends - Small spiral notebook
  • Mickey Mouse and Friends - Pencil
  • Disney Mickey Mouse small tub of play dough + mould
  • Mickey Party Blower
  • Mickey and Friends - Butter Cookies
  • Gummy bear and worm candies
  • Loaker chocolate wafer

All packed nicely in bags I found at Daiso!
